CEP Configuration Manager 2012 Mobile Device Management summary

Today another CEP session about Mobile Device Management in Configuration Manager 2012 was held. Since I attended earlier version this year, I will only write about the changes or new information. Today Hassen Karaa, Project Manager of the Configuration Manager 2012 Team, presented the session. Let’s see what’s new!

I summarize some changes or different information that is shared below:

  • In the RTM version of Configuration Manager 2012, Windows Phone 7 will be managed through the Exchange ActiveSync connector. The Windows Phone 7 will be moved to natively managed devices that have a Configuration Manager client in a later stage. WebOS (especially for my boss 😉 ) will also be managed through the Exchange ActiveSync connector.
  • Support for Exchange 2010 SP1 to define access rules to block or quarantine devices that connect to Exchange 2010. Per device you are able to allow or block a device.

  • Extended reports like below

  • The settings management experience is fully integrated with desktop configuration.
  • The evaluation of the devices is done on the server instead of the device itself, this is done to save battery life.
  • Mobile Device wipe is supported for Light and Thick management and supports user initiated or admin initiated wipe. The wipe command is send to the Exchange Client Access Server or (Mobile Device) Management Point. When the device retrieves it’s policy at the MP or Exchange CAS the wipe will be initiated.
